Energy Performance Certificates

Epc-main

Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) are needed when any building (residential dwellings and commercial buildings) is marketed to be sold, rented out, constructed or refurbished.

EPCs give information on a building's energy efficiency in a sliding scale from 'A' (very efficient) to 'G' (least efficient) by analysing how the building is constructed, insulated, heated and ventilated, and the type of fuel being used. Every EPC also has a recommendations report showing how the owner / occupier could improve the rating.

Larger public buildings are also required to have Display Energy Certificates (DECs) on show. DECs show the public how much energy a building uses and how energy efficient it is compared with other similar buildings. They are accompanied by advisory reports that list cost-effective measures to improve energy ratings.

Smiths Chartered Surveyors are qualified and Elmhurst Energy accredited energy assessors and can undertake EPCs for domestic, commercial (new build and existing), and DECs for public buildings.
